Island Drifter in Watmough Bay

Hull House and Deck

Island Drifter is the original boat of this design. It was built to be extra strong and extremely fair so that a mold could be made from this hull. The hull is planked in western red cedar over bent white oak frames. The house is mahogany and the decks are fiberglass over plywood.

Important Upgrades

  • New stainless steel rigging and running rigging replaced in 2002.
  • Repowered with 18 hp Yanmar (2GM20F) including Aquamet 22 shaft in 2003 and three-bladed bronze propeller in 2009.
  • Bronze throughhulls installed throughout.
  • Electrical and plumbing systems reworked in 2002 and later, including electronics, inverter and efficient lighting.
  • Heavy anchor (22 lb Rocna) with 100' high test chain and 300' rode.
  • Mainsail replaced in 2006.
  • Oven installed in 2007.
  • V-berth cushions new in 2009.
  • Non-skid coating on decks in 2011.
  • Fresh bottom paint and zincs Oct 2011.
  • New teak rubrails Oct 2011.
